The Wide Brown Land

Submission for Helou Studio's Exquisite Collective Project

I was invited to represent Australia in the Exquisite Collective project by Helou StudioMy entry for this project for Helou Studio Argentina to represent Australia. I used Dorothea Mackellar's iconic poem that describes the harsh landscape of Australia that she loves as a starting point.

MY COUNTRY

I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains,

Of rugged mountain ranges, of drought and flooding rains.

I love her far horizons, I love her jewel sea,

Her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me.

Though earth holds many splendours, wherever I may die,

I know to what brown country my homing thoughts will fly.

Core of my heart, my country, Land of the rainbow gold,

For flood and fire and famine She pays us back three fold.

I love her far horizons, I love her jewel sea,

Her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me.

Though earth holds many splendours, wherever I may die,

I know to what brown country my homing thoughts will fly.
