CITO, Ingrebourne Hill
We completed a geocaching walk around Ingrebourne Hill and collected this lot from the lookout point part way round - we filled a bag and took this bit home. Cache In Trash Out is an ongoing environmental initiative supported by the worldwide geocaching community. Since 2002, geocachers around the world have been dedicated to improving parks and other cache-friendly places. Through these volunteer efforts, we help preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor resources!
The Ingrebourne Valley was a former gravel extraction site, which was then used as a landfill site in the 1970s and 1980s. It was transformed into a greenspace for the community in 2008.
Ingrebourne Hill now forms a key part of a network of urban greenspaces at the heart of the largest regeneration area in Europe - The Thames Gateway. Ingrebourne Hill is one of ten Thames Chase Community Forest sites in the area managed by the Forestry Commission.
Although only 72 ft above sea level Ingrebourne Hill is higher than anywhere else in South Hornchurch and the outlook from its highest point gives a bird’s eye view of the surrounding area, the Thames, the City of London and beyond, as far as the North Downs.
