Clare Station

Clare Station was opened in August 1865 and formed part of the Stour valley line on the Great Eastern Railway.

The Great Eastern Railway became part of the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) in 1923. The line was important during World War Two carrying construction materials for new aerodromes.

In 1948 the railway was nationalised and run by British Railways.

This part of the line north of Sudbury was closed in 1967 as part of the "Re-shaping of British Railways" aka The Beeching Report.
