St Mary Coslany Church, Norwich
St Mary Coslany is one of the surviving medieval parish churches in the centre of Norwich. The round tower is much older than the medieval church having been built by the Saxons.
Coslany became an area of factories, warehouses and breweries, and there are still factories today. St Mary's Church was derelict during the Victorian era. Despite this it was majorly restored during the early 20th Century. It had fallen out of use again by the Second World War. The bells were removed from the tower during 1937 as the tower was considered too unsafe for them to be rung there. They were taken down and rehung in the new church of St Catherine at Mile Cross in Norwich. During 1942 the church was hit during a bombing raid and parts of the roof and crossing were damaged or destroyed.
