North Elmham 'Cathedral', Norfolk

North Elmham, near Dereham, Norfolk. This is the site of a Saxon Cathedral. Nothing remains of the cathedral and it is thought that it was built of wood.

A Norman chapel was built on the site in the eleventh century. This was later converted into a fortified manor house in the fourteenth century by Henry Despenser. Henry Despenser was a very unpopular Bishop of Norwich who brutally supressed the Peasant's Revolt of 1381.
