Shannonvale Memorial - Tadg O h-Uallaig (Tim Whooley)
Memorial to Tadg O h-Uallaig (Tim Whooley), a captain in the 3rd Brigade Cork IRA who was killed at Shannonvale, Co Cork on 27/3/1921. He was shot dead by a companion, whose gun went off when he was cleaning it.
Because he was a soldier of the Republic, his death had to be kept quite for fear of arousing British military in the locality. His comrades carried his body to a safe house at Liscubba and got a coffin in Clonakilty. Scouts preceded the cortege along the roads to Ahiohil cemetery where he was buried in the dead of night.
