PK 2684
This is part of the Thursford Collection in Norfolk.
The Aveling & Porter Light Locomotive PK 2684.
This locomotive has all the characteristics of a showman's engine, but without any decorative devices. It was used for many years by Kent County Council and has complete disc flywheel, one extra watertank, and compound cylinders which could rre-use steam, all of which made it practical and exonomical to use on working journeys on the open road.
As is the case on many Aveling & Porter engines, the wheels are cast, rather than having the more usual rivetted joints, and the rubber tyres are pressed on, rather than being fixed in place with bolts.
