Earsdon, St. Albans church in 1897

Scene of the largest mass burial the North east has seen, the burial of the victims of the New Hartley colliery disaster in January 1862.

 

The Church of St. Alban, was erected in 1836 at a cost of £2,200, partly on the eastern portion of the site of the former church, pictured previously and consecrated on the 12th of October, 1837.
