A major issue was the voltage-dropping resistance wire on the full length of the line cord. The heat from the resistance wire destroyed the insulation. I sought advice on this issue and was instructed in how to use capacitance to drop the AC voltage. The copper band was used to bind the resistance wire to the AC conductor.
