Yelloway Motor Services, Lancashire - London coach service leaflet - 1955
The lost and lamented Yelloway Motor Services of Rochdale, Lancashire, were once one of the most highly regarded smaller coach operators and they ran extensive long-distance services throughout England (and Wales). I recall them well as during the 1960s, as a child, I made regular journeys from home in the Black Country back to the family in Rochdale on their coaches and they were a smart operator, with that yellow livery and the sunburst motif! This 1955 leaflet shows the routes from both west and east Lancashire to London, in pre-motorway days - from Lancashire seaside and mill towns down through the Midlands on the old A6 to the suburbs and centre of London. I like the fact the route diagram emphases the "Y" of Yelloway in yellow!
