J Sainsbury's, grocers, press advert, 1939

A grand 1939 press advert for Sainsbury's - then a mostly southern England concern, not the national grocers they are today. It is wonderfully period - the housekeeper up at the Big House... even the wicker shopping baskets are of their age. I do admire the quality of the illustration, quite possibly a scraperboard. The "Selsa" products were the then Sainsbury's own brand label.
