Groot-Brittannië per schip en trein : Dutch language publicity brochure : British Railways : Southern Region : 1963 : printed at the Baynard Press : Spoorwegkaart - kaart van British Railways uit 1963.

A rather lavish brochure and map, intended I suspect for foreign visitors arriving from the Continent, and issued by British Railways Southern Region in 1963. It describes the various railway ferry routes and main line train services. The brochure appears in various European languages including German, English, Italian and as here in Dutch. The contents give details of Continental agents, shipping services to the UK, train services, distances and fares and ancilliary information such as for London Transport's tourist tickets.

The background to the map inside is of the network is printed in gold ink and the cover, using gold for the lion and red for the unicorn, is by John Bainbridge (1919 - 1978), is a bold representation of the Lion and the Unicorn from the Royal Arms.

This fine map of the British Railways system, just prior to the widespread "Beeching cuts", also shows part of the Irish railway system alongside the various ferry services.
