Offsetpressen : advert issued by Schnellpressenfabrik Frankenthal Albert & Cie. AG. : in : Archive für Buchgewerbe und Gebrauchsgraphik : Leipziger Heft : Jahrgang 1922 : Heft 1/2 : Berlin 1922 : artwork by Binder
A bold and colourful, Plakatstil advert for the famous manmufacturers of printing presses, the Schnellpressenfabrik Frankenthal Albert & Cie. AG. who were based in the town of that name Frankenthal (Pfalz). The company has its origins in the company of Schnellpressenfabrik Albert & Hamm in 1861 but the partners went their separate ways in 1871; in 1873 Andreas Albert formed his own company the Schnellpressenfabrik Albert & Cie. OHG and this concern survived until 1990 when it was acquired by Germany's oldest press manufacturing company Koenig & Bauer; this was the company that Andreas Albert had served his apprenticeship with before forming his own business.
The advert is for the offset press that, I think, was newly introduced in 1922. It is signed "Binder" and this is possibly Joseph Binder (1898 - 1972), the Austrian born designer and artist who emigrated to the US in 1936. It appears in the Archive für Buchgewerbe und Gebrauchsgraphik issue, number 1, 1922, that was a special edition on the printing and publishing businesses of Leipzig.
