It is, I suspect, the only time the Co. Durham town of Shildon has ever appeared on a version of the Inter-City map. For the 150th anniversary of the passenger railway in Great Britain there were a series of events the highlight of which was the Steam Cavalcade on 31 August 1975 that saw a vast collection of locomotives travel the section of line between Shidon and Heighington. It was splendid as I know as I was there.
Shildon, long a part of railway history alongside neighbouring Darlington and Stockton, is now the National Railway Museum's main outpost after York. As well as details of the events there are timetables giving the main connections as seen on the diagram to Darlington and North East England.
