Second Class Mail for Abroad : GPO publicity booklet : Post Office : London : August 1938 : illustrations by Herbert Gwynn : pages 6 & 7
Another of the well designed items of publicity issued by the British Post Office - the GPO - in the 1930s when this earlier staid Government agency introduced a much more contemporary edge to its advertising. The booklet, issued in August 1938, was to give details of the arrangements for Second Class Mail for abroad "at low postage rates". It goes into considerable detail as to the examples of Imperial and Foreign post that could be sent and how they should be prepared and presented for posting.
The eyecatching cover and the vignettes througout the booklet are by Herbert Gwynn (1873 - 1956) who undertook other commissions for the GPO as well as other clients including London Transport.
