The Wynkyn de Worde Society 1969 : Luncheon Meeting 23 January 1969 : London : Curwen Press : 1969

Unsurprisingly, for a society that exists to promote excellence in printing as well as being printed by the Curwen Press, this 1969 invitation card for the Wynkyn de Worde Society is a tidy piece of work! It features the sun symbol that characterised many of the Society's publications.

It was founded in 1956 and is named after William Caxton’s journeyman, Wynkyn de Worde, who after Caxton's death in 1492 took over his master's press and later set up site in Fleet Street, London, destined to become a centre of publishing over the centuries. This meeting was to be held at the Worshipful Company of Stationers Hall on Thursday 23 January 1969 where the speaker was Archibald Turnbull of the Edinburgh University Press and the Chairman was Antony Mackay Miller. The RSVP was to be returned to Lawrence Williams at the Curwen Press in Plaistow.
