Gebrauchsgraphik : Jahrgang 3 - Heft 8 : 1926 : Sonderheft Rhein - Ruhr Reklame : Prof. H. K. Frenzel : Verlag Phönix-Illustrationdruck und Verlag GmBH, Berlin : Erbar-Grotesk 3

The special issue, year 3, issue 8, of the fine and long lived German graphic design magazine "Gebrauchsgraphik " that was published in 1926. This looks at the "Rhine and Ruhr in Advertising Art" and looks at many of the designer, printing houses and clients who were active in this long-established industrial powerhouse of Germany.

At the time the magazine was published by Verlag Phönix-Illustrationdruck und Verlag GmBH of Berlin SW68 and edited by Prof. H. K. Frenzel.

This is a part of a four page insert issued by the Frankfurt AM typefoundry of Ludwig and Mayer for their new Erbar-Grotesk typeface, designed for them by Köln based "master scribe" Jakob Erbar. It is an early outing for the typeface that was issued in this year, 1926. The back page shows four sets of the typeface; many others were issued in the following years. Erbar-Grotesk is recognised as being one of the first of the "new" geometric san serif typefaces to be commercially issued along with Futura.
