Exhibition by Klingspor : Arranged by Robert Harling in collaboration with Lund Humphries : London : 1935 : pages 6 & 7

A charming, small format catalogue to an exhibition held at 12 Bedford Square, London, the offices of the well-known printers and publishers Lund Humphries of Bradford and London. The title page notes that the exhibition relates to "the work of the Klingspor Typefoundry of Offenbach - am - Main with special refernce to Rudolf Koch".

The exhibition was arranged by Rober Harling who also wrote the text for this catalogue. As well at Koch, Harling notes the work of others involved in the Klingspor concern that was one of several noted and important type foundries in Germany at the time; these include Dr. Karl Klingspor, Wilhelm Klingspor, Otto Hupp, Peter Behrens, Otto Eck,amm, Victor Hammer and Walter Tiemann. The catalogue is set in the Tiemann Antiqua typeface designed by the latter in 1923. Other notable names include that of Mr. W. Soldan and his secretary, Miss Loescher. Soldans, based in London, were more many years the British agents for many German typefoundries.

Lund Humphries had gained a reputation for a close interest in the 'new wave' of fine printing and typography seen in the UK in the interwar years and they produced many and various interesting examples of work themselves. The exhibition was held as part of a series held in their refurbished London offices, the company's presses being in Bradford, West Yorkshire, where the exhibition space was designed by architects Stanley Hall, Easton and Robertson with decor by Marion Dorn and the space opened in 1933. Various exhibitions took place here until 1939 - this about Klingspor running for a month in June - July 1935.
