Jean D’Ylen was the pseudonym of Jean Beguin (1886 – 1938), French born artist and designer who was commissioned by Shell-Mex on many occassions in the 1920s and '30s for eyecatching designs that emphasised the company's progressive attitude to advertising and publicity. This is a lorry bill, or poster, designed to be carried by Shell delivery vehicles and is one a large number of such posters created by the company.
