British Railways to Winter Sports : brochure issued by British Railways Board, nd [c.1963]
In the years immediately prior to the new look for British Railways "British Rail" there does appear to have been a determined change to modernise the 'look' of the railway and publicity was issued moving away from the rather staid BR totem and the use of Gill Sans. Many of these items of advertising making use of an arrow motif - slightly 'Granada TV' to my eye and here is is put to good use formaing part of an ice crystal pattern for winter sports.
The brochure lists various European and Scottish resorts and the travel arrangements there by train. It includes details of the short season of "The Alpenrose Express" from London Victoria at 1430 with an Austrian arrival the following morning via Calais and a sleeper/couchette connection. I can find little about this although BR did issue a poster for the service c.1964 so this could help date this undated brochure.
I've had to clean this scan up a bit - my copy was obviously stacked 'wet' with others and so the cover colours have bled all over the place!
