Stillade Makes Thirst a Joy! : advert issued by Robertson Fruit Products Ltd., Dundee : in The Angus Christmas Number 1947 : Herald Press, Arbroath, Scotland
A cheery full page colour advert from 1947, when colour printing was still relatively uncommon in Austerity Britain and seen in the Christmas Number of the Angus magazine published at the Herald Press in Arbroath. It is for Stillade available in both orange and lemon flavours and using suitably fruity characters to sell these bottled beverages.
The Robertson's who made this are not the 'other' Scottish Robertson's of jam and marmalade fame but the Dundee based company of Robertson Fruit Products. A mention of the company in Hansard in by the Dundee West MP Mr Doig in 1964 states that the company, based in his constituency, first started to produce carbonated drinks in the 1920s so perhaps these possibly 'still' drinks are of the same era? They also made the local "Pola-Cola". I suspect, latterly, they may have had an interest in Strathmore Spring at Forfar that was acquired by Glasgow based soft drinks company Dunn's in 1984 - I wonder if this was Robertson's? Offly Strathmore is now owned by that famous Scottish soft drinks manufacturer A G Barr.
