Hands up those who remember what a neighbour of ours in West Bromwich used to refer to as "National 'Elf Foods"? I suppose we are a dwindling bunch now, the post-war baby boom that saw the Health Services dole out various products to help make us grow up into sturdy little things; vitamins like C and D that they worried we didn't get in our diets as so came in these bottles.
The Concentrated Orange Juice was fun - preferably undiluted but I wonder if that was the reason for so many childhood fillings (or was that our over-enthuiastic dentist?). The Cod Liver Oil was worth avoiding - I prefered mine hidden in Malt and Cod LIver Oil Extract! Alongside these liquid products there were of course National Dried Milk in those big tins.
