Daily News "I-Spy" book number 9 : I Spy in the street : Daily News, London : 1955
The News Chronicle's "I-Spy Tribe", complete with Big Chief I-Spy awards certificates and orders of merit for successfully completed I-Spy books, was a popular past time for many children in post-WW2 years. In many ways it was books such as these that helped foster my childhood inquisitiveness! Although the books and name changed hands on many occassions, including the transfer of the Chronicle to the Daily News the actual premise and books of the title carried on into this century, latterly published by Michelin.
This earlier version of book number 9, "In the street", has a collection of shop signs, pillar box and a policeman using an early version of a 'walkie-talkie' radio complete with a 'whip aerial'.
