The Caledonian : leaflet issued by British Railways ; London Midland Region ; nd [1957] : inner fold
A leaflet issued by British Railways, London Midland Region, announcing the introduction of the named express passenger train "The Caledonian" that ran between London Euston and Glasgow Central station. Although not dated the service first ran on 17 June 1957 and as can be seen ran in the up direction from Glasgow in the morning, departing at 0830, with a corresponding down run leaving Euston at 1615. The train had only a single stop at Carlisle and the leaflet shows the mileage and passing times for other intermediate points. The journey time, steam hauled, was a creditable 6 hours and 40 minutes.
The named service continued in operation until 1964 by which time the journey was slightly slower to allow for electrification works on the southern sections of the West Coast Main Line and the train was diesel hauled.
