British Transport Catering Services : packed meals leaflet : January 1959

An interesting small leaflet issued by British Transport Catering Services, part of the British Transport Commission and who provided such services across various division of the nationalised transport industry. This draws attention to the catering services available for parties and excursions - these are the range of pre-packed meals (in carrier bags), tray meals (that were usually made available in an insulated container on-board the specified train) and the 'Compakt' meal boxes that was, seemingly a cut above the rest!

The idea behind these services was to ensure that groups and parties had pre-organised food for their trip as well as not overwhelming train or station cartering buffets where these were available. The list of contents and prices makes for intersting reading.

The design of the leaflet is quite striking - sadly no designer or agency is shown but I wonder if this is not possibly a product of the Curwen Press who undertook a lot of work for the BTC at the time. It forms a double opening fold and so I have scanned it in the three sections.
