Patterned binding paper designed by Enid Marx : The Woodcut : An Annual : No. 2 : 1928

From the beautifully produced second issue of "The Woodcut", edited by Herbert Furst and published by The Fleuron in London in 1928. It was printed at the Curwen Press in Plaistow. This binding paper, used to cover the book cover boards, was designed and engraved on wood by Enid Marx.

Curwen were famous for their ranges of pattern papers, used to such effect on book covers, that they commissioned from a wide range of artists and designers. Enid Marx RDI (1902 - 1998) was a highly talented designer of textiles and books and, for me, is best recalled as one of the designers commissioned by the London Passenger Transport Board by Christian Barman to design seating moquette fabrics for London Transport in the late-1930s.
