The City of Birmingham Handbook, 1950 - front cover

Beautifully simple - the cover to the City of Birmingham's 1950 handbook - with embossed lettering and the city's famous coat of arms along with the motto "Forward" - the proud boast of the then "workshop of the world". I recall the coat of arms everywhere! - street lamps, buses, council buildings - even on the front of all my school exercise books - civic pride.
