Scottish Mining Museum - Lady Victoria Colliery, Newtongrange, Midlothian - advertising poster c1990

Sorting through old posters and a reminder of my time as Librarian and then Curator at the then Scottish Mining Museum at Newtongrange. At the time the SMM was multi-site as the Prestongrange Beam Engine was part of the Museum - it now forms part of another institutions.

The main site of what is now the National Mining Museum of Scotland is based at the surviving Lady Victoria Colliery, pride of the Lothian Coal Company when the site was developed, and an amazing surface survivor of a large scale Victorian colliery opened in 1894 that was additionally developed by the National Coal Board before closure in 1981.
