Street lighting : Standon, Hertfordshire, UK : 2015

The small village of Standon in Hertfordshire had managed to retain quite an eclectic mix of elderly street lighting even in 2015. The majority were cast iron columns, with swan neck brackets, and although some were 'purpose made' for electric lighting one was certainly an earlier gas lamp columns repurposed as was often the case. There was also a concrete example, very fitting really, as the manufacturer Concrete Utilities who were one of the 'greats' in such products, was based a few miles away in Ware, Hertfordshire. They all carried sodium lanterns. This is an example of a CU column and bracket looking in surprisingly good order for something 60 odd years old!
