Popular models from the Desoutter 'Armoury" - Desoutter Brothers Ltd, London : advert in the from RAF Air Display, Hendon, 1936 - programme
There were several Desoutter Brothers and the story goes that Marcel, an earlier aviator who lost a leg in an accident, turned to his brother Charles to help design a replacement limb. This, made from lightweight duralumin, was such a success Marcel returned to flying and the brothers developed a business based around precision drilling tools that were required for such artifical limbs.
By 1920 the company were in business based at The Hyde, in Hendon, north London - close to the Hendon aerodrome and indeed Marcel did at one point start an aircraft construction company albeit based at Croydon having left "the Brothers" concern. Desoutter prospered moving into a wider range of tooling for various growth industries of the day such as automotive and aircraft. The name survives although they are now based in France.
The Desoutters took two pages of advertising in the programme - apt for a local concern with aeronautical links.
