Illuminated sign on the Klingenberg Power Station of BEWAG, Berlin, Germany, c1930

From an article discussing the use of electric light in architecture and advertising a plate showing the illuminated letters, comprised of single "glow-lamps" attached to a wire net that was spread between two of the station's chimneys. Klingenberg, when constructed in 1925 - 1927 was considered to be one of the world's most efficient thermal, coal burning power stations. It was constructed by the reformed municipal power undertaking of the city of Berlin, Berliner Städtische Elektrizitätswerke Akt.-Ges. and is situated in Berlin-Lichtenberg.

Designed and equipped by the giant German company AEG it was named after the designer and AEG employee, Georg Klingenberg, who was the technical designer and who was aided by his brother, Walter, who together with Werner Isse, was responsible for the architecture.

The station is still in use as a CHP station using gas as fuel, and is a Listed Monument.
