Art & Industry magazine cover, April 1940

The magazine Art & Industry, previously Commercial Art etc., altered their front cover design and layout in early 1940 to what is even now a relatively 'clean' and 'modern' design and interestingly the changes are applauded in one edition by no less than the advertising artist and designer, Ashley Havinden, at Crawford's Agency. Sadly this series was very short lived as by late 1940 the impact of wartime rationing meant the magazine shrank in size and had to become a much simpler affair for many long years and indeed it never reverted to this format again.

This issue discussing stencilled letter-forms uses a similar letter form for the main heading here.
