From a 1950 publication on British Commercial Vehicles some examples of those often ignored but very necessary vehicles that help service our communities. This page has examples of gully and cesspool emptiers manufactured by a variety of chassi builders and various of the specialist body and equipment manufturers.
Karrier are again shown, the name by this date being associated with such specialist vehicles as the trolleybus division and name had passed to Guy Motors, and this is an example of the Karrier-Yorkshire gully emptier as delivered to the Lancashire municipality of the the County Borough of Bolton. Market Bosworth Rural District Council's Dennis cesspool emptier is shown as is a Thornycroft-Eagle gully emptier for another UK council, that of the Sutton in Ashfield Urban District Council.
Two other vehicles are shown being for export markets. An Eagle emptier on a Bedford Motors chassis was destined for Cyprus and a Bedford chassis was also used for the equipment delivered to the Borough Council fo San Fernando, Trinidad.
