London Country Buses RT 4114 on route 805, Epping High Street, Essex, 1972

One of Nick Agnew's photographs that appear here with his consent and this showing RT 4114 (LUC 463) on Epping High Street heading towards Harlow New Town on route 805. The bus, new to London Transport in April 1951 and, in LT parlance a 3RT8 version with Weymann bodywork, had been transferred to the new National Bus Company subsidiary London Country Buses in January 1970 as part of the handover of the old LT Country Bus area. RT 4114 was only based at Harlow Garage from January 1972 until October of that year when it was sold for scrap in December.

The High St here hasn't really changed a lot apart from the usual churn of retail units common to all High Streets. As was often the case on Harlow based RT's the side advert is for the Hertford brewers McMullens who still 'survive' although no longer in their historic brewery. The bus is passing a once ubiquitous sight on UK roads - a Ford Transit Mark I van!
