The English Black Letter : typeface synopsis issued byThe Cloister Press, Heaton Mersey, nr Manchester, c1921/2, page 3

The Cloister Press was founded by C W Hobson in 1921, part of the contemporary British movement to raise the standards of printing and publishing, and was noteworthy in that Stanley Morison was employed as the design supervisor. This is the sheet for The English Old Caslon Black Letter, with a cover illustration of St Mark by Charles Paine and is beautifully printed on Abbey Mills Greenfield paper. This page notes that the Press had also obtained a French black letter, the eleven point Didot. It is, I understand, one of eight specimen sheets they issued.

The Press was based in Heaton Mersey, Stockport, in the southern suburbs of Manchester. It undertook commercial and advertising as well as fine printing.
