Tom Smith's Christmas Crackers : advert from The Advertiser's ABC, 1930

One of a series of adverts issued by Tom Smith's of London for their crackers and designed for them by T B Browne's agency. Tom Smith is generally credited with the invention or introduction of the 'modern' Christmas cracker in 1847 and I suspect it chimed nicely with the growing Victorian 'idea' of a traditional Christmas along with the growing middle classes with disposable income who could afford such seasonal indulgences. The name is still attached to crackers to this day.
