Lettering in the Festival of Britain South Bank site, 1951

The 1951 Festival of Britain held against a back drop of austerity was a delight of graphic design and this included such things as lettering and signage that was very carefully considered. This page from a contemporary journal shows the styles and applications of signs and lettering seen on site. The designers include;

Gordon Cullen, Terence Bliss' George Subiotto, Milner Gray, Misha Black, Gordon and Ursula Bowyer and Fry Drew & Partners.
