"Shopping is a pleasure at the International Stores" - advert on reverse of a London Transport timetable booklet, 1938
A charming and simple advert in striking single colour - and her is the new suburb so beloved of London Transport - who effectively helped develop so many of them! The International Stores were one of the early breed of national shop chains (such as Sainsburys or the Maypole Dairy) - formed as the International Tea Stores in Brentford in 1878 they eventually were taken over in 1972 - and became part of the wider Gateway Supermarkets that evolved into Somerfield and that is now the Co-Op.
