BBC Radio Times Coronation number for Queen Elizabeth II - artwork by Eric Fraser
Eric Fraser was one of the foremost English illustrators of the twentieth century and he did prolific amounts of work for the BBC and Radio Times in the days when commissioned covers, line drawings and vignettes were popular before photographic illustrations became common. This is the cover for the 1953 Coronation edition of the Radio Times - a date that helped to kick-start the inexorable post-war rise of television in the UK. Great care was taken to produce the first postwar 'colour' cover by using tinted printing paper. Over 9m copies of this edition were sold - this copy comes from a scrap book I have of Fraser's work.
