Quotation letter from Leyland Motors Ltd for bus chassis and bodies to Central SMT, 1948

As part of the nationalisation of the SMT Group bus companies in 1948 account had to be made of the value of the bus fleets and one way of doing this was to check as to the replacement value of the buses. These letters are from various bus builders back to Central SMT in response and giving details of current chassis and prices. This is from the famous Leyland Motors, of Leyland in Lancashire, via the Glasgow sales office.

The letter refers to a rather rare variant of the single deck Tiger chassis being a small batch 18 such three-axle vehicles that Central purchased in 1935. Later 12 of this batch would be reconstructed as two-axle Titan TD4 double deck buses and this, I think, was causing some issues with fleet valuation.
