City of Manchester year book 1929 - Manchester's first automatic traffic signals (Market St and Cross St)

Two earnest policemen listening to a 'boffin' explaining the working of the city's first 'automated' traffic signals in 1929 at the junction of Market and Cross St. The white over coat denotes that the policeman is on points duty - several forces issued white coats (and even helmets) for traffic duties. The text explains that this installation allowed the redeployment of the two traffic officers that had previously been required to control traffic at this busy junction. The 'Go' green lens is also rather fine! I suspect that this installation was manufactured by the Manchester based Forest City company - see advert below.
