Broad Street, Birmingham, UK - special street lamp, c1946
A view from a war Transport report into street layouts. A post-war shot showing the fancy 1930s street lighting that graced the 'Civic Centre' and up into Broad St. Some of these held on until the 1970s, albeit with simpler GEC lanterns. I'm minded that Revo made the columns - and possibly the early lanterns as seen here - as they made the curved top ones at the Civic Centre - but on the other hand, these could be GEC Specials. A Birmingham City Transport Daimler bus is making its way towards Five Ways. The street shows isgns of wartime - the base of the lamp posts being painted with white stripes to help during the blackout when this street lamp would have been switched off for the best part of 5 years.
