Ex Southend Corporation Transport 263 in service with Ensignbus at Upminster, Essex, 2 December 2017

Quite the survivor this -originally delivered to London Transport during WW2 as a ‘utility’ bus this 1944 Daimler had a Duple double deck body and was D27 in the fleet. The Utilities bodies were not the best built, given wartime pressures, but the chassis were seen as a good buy by many operators when LT withdrew them. In 1952 GLX 913 was bought by Southend Transport who fitted a new bodywork by Massey and used it in service until 1962. It survived as a police support vehicle and is now preserved in the Ensignbus fleet and is here on a running day at Upminster.
