British Railways (Southern Region) - the Continent via Southampton - Havre, services and fares brochure cover, 1959

What a shame this cover doesn't have a named designer as I rather enjoy the simplicity of this - as it shows the vessel under night skies this route BR sold this 2100 departure from London Waterloo and a subsequent 2315 departure ftom Southampton as the 'leisurely' way to reach northern France and Paris with an arrival at Gare St Lazare at 0920. The vessel used was the purpose built TSS Normannia, constructed for the BTC by William Denny on Clydebank and entering service in 1952. She was withdrawn from service in 1978 and broken up in Spain that year. The Le Havre ferry service from Southampton, latterly run by other operators, appears to have been withdrawn and transferred to Portsmouth in 1984 with no direct rail connections.
