Ferodo brake and clutch linings - motor trade retail price list supplement 1956
With a fine view - a touched up coloured photo of Oxford Street in London (looking east towards Tottenham Court Rd) - a 1956 price list for the long-established Capel-en-le-Frith based company whose trade name is still in use. The company was founded in Manchester in 1897 and as the motor industry grew so did their automotive based trade. In 1926 it became part of the now infamous Turner & Newall company (due to their use of asbestos in their products) and so the company became embroiled in the long term health and legal issues that finally forced T&N/Federal Mogul into bankruptcy. The scene has obviously been chosen to show the wide range of vehicles they produced linings for - a selection of London buses, delivery vans (including Hays Wharf Cartage and John Lewis) and cars. A few shop frontages can be seen - selling goods such as Aertex Shirts and the old 'Fifty Shilling Tailors", that was to become John Collier.
