1933 London Transport (Metropolitan Railway) station gardens competition judging, 1933 - Willesden Green station
An official LT image showing judging in the 1933 station gardens competition at 'Willesden Green and Cricklewood" just as the Metropolitan Railway lost its independence and became part of the new London Transport. The 'Met' enjoyed creative station naming - it lost the 'Cricklewood' in 1938, probably in advance of the transfer of the bulk of its services to the Bakerloo line in 1939. Two chaps look at flowers - the other two appear more interested in the approach of one of the Met's electric locomotives, No 1, (named John Lyon) serving true "Metroland'. The station signs show the Met's version of the roundel - the diamond - and an enamel plate mentions the possibility of catching a tram outside the station to Hendon or Edgware.
