Ex-London Transport 'OSCP' bus stop post and flag at North Weald station, Epping Ongar Railway, Essex - August 2016
Evening sun illuminating a once familiar sight in the old 'Country Bus' area of London Transport - one of their own OSCP - Old Style Concrete Post - type concrete bus stop post. LT had a long history of designing their own bus stops and, after some cast iron ones in the 1920s from the Birmingham Guild, set to making their own concrete ones at the Parsons Green workshop. Until 1969, when LT relinquished their Country Area services to the national Bus Company, North Weald was nicely within their territory and so posts would have been a common sight in these parts. Most have now gone and so this 'preserved' example at the EOR is quite rare - and I have to say this is a recent replacement, sourced in Surrey, to replace the original here that got walloped by a lorry, something that doesn't do much for reinforced concrete! At least this one seems safe and is happy doing its job served by the 339 and 381 buses.
