"A disappointing report" - commentary on the 1933 Report on UK Traffic Signs by Noel Carrington
An interesting one pager from the 1933 Design Magazine with Noel Carrington commenting on the recent report of the Committee on Traffic Signs that had been asked by the UK Government to look at the design and standarisation of road signs as traffic levels grew. The designs - that Noel Carrington was unhappy about - were to form the basis of UK road signs for over 30 years. Of interest is the sample of the typeface adopted - along with an outline direction sign. Noel Carrington is probably best remembered as being the founder of Penguin Books.
