A striking - if slightly damaged due to the wear on the glossy black background - cover to a 1958 brochure issued by Smiths Imperial Coaches. The company, whose HQ and coach station was at Stratford Rd in Sparkbrook, were one of the best known names in Birmingham's independent coach operations. Founded in 1924, and named after 'Imperial Road', the location of their first depot, the company only closed down in 2001 - a sad loss as the operator was a bit of a Brummie trademark.
