Advert for Transparent Paper Ltd., 1955 featuring tipped in Diophane wrapper for Lyons Greenline Mints

Although giving a London HQ address Transparent Paper Ltd was based at Heap Bridge on the boundary of Heywood and Bury in Lancashire and, with Yates, Duxbury papermills next door, added to the smell of the area I recall as a child and the likely dead state of the River Roch! T

he company was formed in the mid-1920s, having taken over Wrigley's Bridge Hall Mill, and appears to have closed in c1980. This tipped in wrapper in Diophane is so fragile and liable to curl but it is a colourful reminder of the sweet and confectionery range of the legendary J Lyons of Cadby Hall in London, that well known operator of tea houses, cafes, restaurants and producers of tea, coffee and other food products. The advert appears in the formidable publication called "The British Packer" in 1955.
